It was established on June 11, 1948. Its' headquarters were situated in the economic capital Bobo Dioulasso until 1962, after which they were transfered to the political capital Ouagadougou. It is regulated by decree n° 95/478/PRES/MCIA of November 8, 1995 and falls under technical supervision of the Ministry in charge of Commerce, Industry and Crafts.
